"WHAT DOES CATECHISM MEAN?"

Pastor Selara R. Mann, Jr.

Exacting Truth Ministries

Definition:

Catechism (n.) - an elementary book containing a summary of the principles of a Christian religion, in the form of questions and answers. (especially as maintained by a particular church.)

Summary:

When we think of the word catechism, we often associate it with a large church edifice and governmental body but it has come to be a standard part of the visitor’s pack for many church bodies even of a smaller membership. But what is the reason behind this? Should a church body have a designated set of regulations and principles or a catechetical understanding that governs how a member of that body should believe and behave beyond what the Bible itself puts forth? Should man’s opinions and understanding of things take precedence over what God Himself laid out as the foundation for behavior? Having a catechism makes things simpler and easy but not by default correct.
